Guidance Notes

The Sophie Hahn Para-Athlete Fund aims to remove financial barriers for emerging para-athletes and their coaches by offering targeted support for training, competition costs and essential equipment, helping them progress in the sport. It sits alongside the Lloyd Cowan Bursary and will support coaches through grants of up to £500 and access to kit, reflecting a shared commitment to development across athletics.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Applications are invited from fully licensed UK-based Athletics Coaches working with para-athletes eligible to represent Great Britain & Northern Ireland for whom cost is a barrier to accessing developmental opportunities. Please do not apply if you are a Coaching Assistant.

HOW WILL YOU USE THE GRANT?

The application should clearly demonstrate the difference that the grant will make and how it will contribute to your physical education in athletics. For example, the grant could fund additional costs of accommodation or travel to competition opportunities, warm weather training, courses, or specialised equipment for athletes. Please ensure that your application includes:

A breakdown of how much you are requesting
How the proposed funding, or access to kit, would benefit you and help you achieve your para-athlete coaching goals

WHEN TO APPLY, AND WHEN DECISIONS ARE MADE?

The Sophie Hahn Para-Athlete Fund will award grants once a year. Application opening and closing dates will be advertised on our online platforms.

Decisions will be made by the selection panel and communicated within four weeks of the close of the application. All applicants will be notified of the outcome via the contact details submitted on the application form. Decisions are final, and there is no system of appeal.
