Hello, and Happy New Year,
Christine Ohuruogu here. It’s hard to believe it’s been four years since Lloyd’s unexpected passing. As we mark this anniversary, I thank you for making such a significant impact through the Lloyd Cowan Bursary.
Since 2021, your generous donations have supported 271 athletes and coaches, providing them with the resources and encouragement to keep pushing to reach their potential. With the next round of grants approaching, we’re excited that nearly 400 individuals will have benefited from the bursary.
Here’s what some of those we’ve helped have shared about the difference your support has made:
“This bursary means a lot to me as an athlete. I train six times a week and compete often; therefore, costs for race entries, travel, training, clothing and shoes can be very expensive. Getting this grant will really support and benefit me in continuing on my athletic path. Thank you so much.” ~Lauren, endurance athlete
“It’s an honour to receive funding from the Bursary for essential equipment for my athletes. Lloyd was always generous, giving from the heart. I’m sure he’d be delighted to know his legacy lives on, helping young athletes today. Thank you again. The equipment obtained with these funds will be greatly appreciated for years to come.” ~Ronnie Williams, coach
“As a coach, this gives me the opportunity to lower the intake age of our junior section from 12 to 8 years. This will allow me to reach even more young people, for which I am very grateful. I believe the earlier we get youngsters active, the better it will be for their health and well-being in later life.” ~Sililo Clay, coach
The Lloyd Cowan Bursary has supported me through thick and thin, helping with fees, equipment, and travel expenses. They’ve helped me so much, and I can’t thank them enough. I wouldn’t have been able to attend half the competitions without their support. I am deeply honoured by the helping hands that have made this possible.”
~Reece, sprinter
Through our annual Athletics for All event, we’ve introduced over 250 primary school children to athletics, supported by many of Lloyd’s world-class coaching peers and athletes whose lives he profoundly impacted.
To continue this vital work and honour Lloyd’s legacy, we’re asking for your support once again. Every donation—big or small—makes a real difference and helps us reach even more athletes and coaches in need. Please donate today via JustGiving.
Together, we can help even more people pursue their dreams in Lloyd’s memory.
Thank you for being such an integral part of this journey. Your kindness means the world to us and to everyone we support.
With gratitude,
Christine Ohuruogu MBE
