The Lloyd Cowan Bursary (LCB), in partnership with the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund (RPMF), has launched its 2025 athletics bursary programme for unfunded young athletes and coaches across the UK. The bursary provides financial support to help committed individuals progress in athletics and access opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
Together, LCB and RPMF are aligning for the second consecutive year to raise funds through the TCS London Marathon. They are also simplifying the grant process, so support reaches those who need it most.
This year’s athletics bursaries are funded by our runners in the 2025 TCS London Marathon and by World indoor 400m champion Amber Anning.
Founded in 1991 and 2021 respectively, RPMF and LCB have helped hundreds of young athletes and coaches with bursaries and grants that reduce financial barriers to participation and development. Their continued collaboration extends their reach and deepens their impact across the sport.
Christine Ohuruogu, Olympic and World 400m champion and founding Trustee of LCB, said:

Launching our 2025 bursary alongside the Ron Pickering Memorial Fund means more young British talent gets a fair shot, and coaches, who are the bedrock of our sport, are recognised. This collaboration preserves and strengthens the legacies of Lloyd Cowan MBE and Ron Pickering OBE, two of Britain’s most respected athletics figures. The charities will remain independent while working together to widen access and support for young people and coaches.
