Eighty-one athletes and 29 coaches have received Lloyd Cowan Bursaries in the 2024-2025 round of awards.
In the four years since Lloyd died, the bursary has granted 381 awards and hosted two Athletics for All events, introducing nearly 300 primary school children to track and field. Our mission is to continue Lloyd’s work of breaking down barriers and creating opportunities in the sport.
We are delighted that Paris double Olympic medallist Amber Anning, who was coached by Lloyd Cowan MBE from the age of 16, pledged to support the charity. Together with her sponsor, Nike, she has provided recipients with access to kit and equipment.
“Lloyd was an inspirational coach and an amazing man, and he’s deeply missed by everyone who knew him,” said Amber. “Supporting the bursary is the least I can do to thank him.”
Northampton sprinter William Dean, a recent bursary beneficiary, expressed his gratitude: “After a difficult year that tested me physically and mentally, the support from LCB and Amber allows me to buy new running shoes and clothing for winter training.”
Amy Billington, a coach at Deeside AAC, added: “The Bursary and Kit Support is a huge benefit, making it much easier for us as volunteers to support the athletes in our area. I’m incredibly grateful for the Lloyd Cowan Bursary and Amber’s kit support for the upcoming season.”
The LCB team thanks everyone who has supported us over the past four years, with a special shout out to Neuff Athletic Equipment. Since 2021, they have offered a 10% discount to all successful LCB recipients.
In April, 10 runners will raise funds for us by taking on the iconic TCS London Marathon. We’re grateful to them for going the extra 26.2 miles to support our work.
